Amanda Blake, the actress best known for her role as Miss Kitty on the television series “Gunsmoke,” passed away on August 16, 1989. Contrary to the initial reports stating that her death was due to cancer, her doctor revealed that she died of AIDS-related complications. Docotrs mentioned that although Blake did have throat cancer, it was not the primary cause of her death.

The revelation about her AIDS-related complications came to light after a report by a Sacramento television station, quoted friends of the actress confirming the connection to AIDS. Doctors acknowledged that Blake had been experiencing symptoms of AIDS for about a year before her death, but he did not have information about how she contracted the disease.

Amanda Blake’s fifth husband, Mark Spaeth, had previously died of pneumonia in 1985 at the age of 45. They were married in April 1984 and later divorced.

Following her death, Mercy General Hospital and her friends initially reported the cause of death as cancer. However, her death certificate listed the immediate cause as cardiopulmonary arrest due to liver failure and CMV hepatitis. CMV hepatitis is AIDS-related, as noted by doctors.
